![]() Like all ancient marble sculpture, funerary statues and grave stelai were brightly painted, and extensive remains of red, black, blue, and green pigment can still be seen ( 04.17.1). On early reliefs, it is easy to identify the dead person however, during the fourth century B.C., more and more family members were added to the scenes, and often many names were inscribed ( 11.100.2), making it difficult to distinguish the deceased from the mourners. A relief depicting a generalized image of the deceased sometimes evoked aspects of the person’s life, with the addition of a servant, possessions, dog, etc. Each funerary monument had an inscribed base with an epitaph, often in verse that memorialized the dead. Relief sculpture, statues ( 32.11.1), tall stelai crowned by capitals ( 11.185a-c,f,g), and finials marked many of these graves. by aristocratic families of Attica in private burial grounds along the roadside on the family estate or near Athens. The most lavish funerary monuments were erected in the sixth century B.C. From depictions on white-ground lekythoi, we know that the women of Classical Athens made regular visits to the grave with offerings that included small cakes and libations. Immortality lay in the continued remembrance of the dead by the living. Very few objects were actually placed in the grave, but monumental earth mounds, rectangular built tombs, and elaborate marble stelai and statues were often erected to mark the grave and to ensure that the deceased would not be forgotten. Following the prothesis, the deceased was brought to the cemetery in a procession, the ekphora, which usually took place just before dawn. Lamentation of the dead is featured in Greek art at least as early as the Geometric period, when vases were decorated with scenes portraying the deceased surrounded by mourners. During the prothesis, relatives and friends came to mourn and pay their respects. After being washed and anointed with oil, the body was dressed ( 75.2.11) and placed on a high bed within the house. Relatives of the deceased, primarily women, conducted the elaborate burial rituals that were customarily of three parts: the prothesis (laying out of the body ( 54.11.5), the ekphora (funeral procession), and the interment of the body or cremated remains of the deceased. Ancient literary sources emphasize the necessity of a proper burial and refer to the omission of burial rites as an insult to human dignity ( Iliad 23: 71). The deceased was then prepared for burial according to the time-honored rituals. ![]() ![]() ![]() The Greeks believed that at the moment of death, the psyche, or spirit of the dead, left the body as a little breath or puff of wind. Indeed, the ghost of the great hero Achilles told Odysseus that he would rather be a poor serf on earth than lord of all the dead in the Underworld ( Odyssey 11: 489–91). ![]() In the Odyssey, Homer describes the Underworld, deep beneath the earth, where Hades, the brother of Zeus and Poseidon, and his wife, Persephone, reigned over countless drifting crowds of shadowy figures-the “shades” of all those who had died. The ancient Greek conception of the afterlife and the ceremonies associated with burial were already well established by the sixth century B.C. ![]()

The importance of the overwatch ability in this game cannot be understated, allowing you to create deadly chokepoints for enemies moving in on your position, but it’s easy to use it in a way that’s overkill. Overwatch allows squadmates to put cones of vision over a certain stretch of the map from their position, and fire on anything that moves in or through that cone. Being aware of these lines is key for knowing what move to make next. Segmented lines mean that the enemy is obscured or only partially visible, often to the point that you’ll only have a small chance to hit. But where to move? When you’re selecting what bit of cover you want to move into next, you’ll spot very thin white lines tracing to enemy units that are visible from that position. Gears Tactics, like many tactics games before it, relies on you outflanking enemies and lining up the perfect shot on them. Additional cosmetic options will unlock as you progress throughout the story. You can even alter the type of metal their armor is made out of. Simply go to the barracks menu, click on a unit, click on their individual armor slot, and under the cosmetics heading there will be a primary and a secondary color choice, with a surprising amount of options. It’s a little hidden away, but you can turn each of these gravelly grunts into giant purple, yellow, or multi-colored monstrosities. Failing to bring a support unit makes any fight tougher, and special units like the grenadier, boomer, or theron guard can quickly disassemble your squad, but if you like your tactics games to be positively punishing, turn it one notch up. Don’t get me wrong, Gears Tactics can still be challenging. In my personal playthrough, I lost only two units - one during a boss fight that I didn’t feel like restarting, and one as a completely random mistake that any amount of forethought could have avoided. Gears Tactics’ default difficulty isn’t a cakewalk, but it’s definitely nowhere near the one-wrong-turn-and-you’re-dead level of tension that XCOM has. An example of hyperfocus is when a child becomes engrossed in a video game to a point where they do not hear a parent calling their name. It is generally reported to occur when a person is engaged in an activity that is particularly fun or interesting. Hyperfocus, broadly and anecdotally speaking, is a phenomenon that reflects one’s complete absorption in a task, to a point where a person appears to completely ignore or ‘tune out’ everything else. We also propose an operational definition of hyperfocus for researchers to use moving forward. ![]() Using this foundation, we provide constructive criticism about previously used methods and analyses. In this paper, we review how hyperfocus (as well as possibly related phenomena) has been defined and measured, the challenges associated with hyperfocus research, and assess how hyperfocus affects both neurotypical and clinical populations. Moreover, some studies do not refer to hyperfocus by name, but describe processes that may be related. ![]() Thus, there is no single consensus to what constitutes hyperfocus. In many cases, hyperfocus goes undefined, relying on the assumption that the reader inherently knows what it entails. Hyperfocus, though ostensibly self-explanatory, is poorly defined within the literature. We propose that hyperfocus is a critically important aspect of cognition, particularly with regard to clinical populations, and that it warrants significant investigation. Hyperfocus is most often mentioned in the context of autism, schizophrenia, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, but research into its effect on cognitive and neural functioning is limited. ‘Hyperfocus’ is a phenomenon that reflects one’s complete absorption in a task, to a point where a person appears to completely ignore or ‘tune out’ everything else. ![]() ![]() Now we are ready to create a backup job and send data to our Azure storage account. One of the songs the Kings of Rhythm waxed that fateful day was the blazing “Rocket ’88,’” sung by Brenston. “We were just excited that we were gonna record,” said Ike. Willie Kizart’s amplifier took a beating in the mishap, factoring into the distortion in his guitar work. The amps and things got wet,” said Turner. It was tied with the trunk open, and the bass on top of the car. “The drums, the stuff fell out of the car. The Kings of Rhythm journeyed up to Memphis in March of 1951 to make their debut sides at Sam Phillips’ fledgling studio. Raymond would do more of the Jimmy Liggins, Joe Liggins, and ‘Chicken Shack Boogie,’ that kind of stuff.” And Jackie would play more Louis Jordan’s kind of stuff. So would Jackie Brenston, but Jackie was more alto and baritone. But see, all of us was kids together, and whatever was hot on the jukebox, we would take it off note for note. Whatever was hot on the jukebox, that’s what we played. And then the ones that couldn’t read, we changed ourselves into the Kings of Rhythm because we kept up with the jukebox. And from there, that started my musical life. “We went over there, and boy, these guys-this guy was playing piano so fast, man, I couldn’t hardly see his fingers! And I said, ‘Damn, man! I wanna do that!’ Lane said, ‘Me too!’ Anyway, we started talkin’ to Pinetop, and he started teaching us different little boogie-woogie things. “Ernest Lane and I was the same age, and we was comin’ home from school and we heard this noise,” said the late Turner. in Clarksdale, Mississippi on November 5, 1931, Ike gravitated to the piano long before he picked up a guitar, inspired by boogie specialist Pinetop Perkins rehearsing with the King Biscuit Boys in Ike’s childhood buddy Ernest Lane’s basement.
